Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Features
(originally made 5/2008; confirmed 7/2008, fall of 2009 [?], summer of 2012 [?]), and 2/4/2015)

RECOVERY PLAN  (as of 8/5/2015)


  • Calcium chews 3x/day (to offset deficiencies in absorption as a side effect of Omeprazole)
  • Propranolol 10mg 3x/day for anxiety

Mornings: Vitamins & Supplements

  • Women’s Multivitamin
  • Vitamin D 2000 IU to assist with Calcium absorption

Evenings: Psychiatric Drug Therapy

  • Venlafaxine 150mg as antidepressant
  • Lamotrigine 100mg as mood stabilizer

Bedtime: Gastrointestinal Help

  • Zegerid OTC (Omeprazole 20mg) for acid reflux
  • Magnesium 500mg

Side Effects:

Inflamed ear/nose/throat passages, occasional insomnia and daytime sleepiness, occasional tinnitus (ringing in the ears), occasional dry mouth

Note that if a rash is observed, it could be a side effect of Lamotrigine that is possibly irreversible and/or fatal – discontinue use and see a doctor immediately.

Other Issues:

Occasional episodes of paranoia or delusion (reduced or eliminated by mood stabilizer), memory loss and difficulty with vocabulary retrieval, possibly just due to age; lethargy much of the day; lack of motivation for most routine tasks; water aversion


General Improvements Since Initial Diagnosis:

Weight remaining stable; emotions remaining stable with the assistance of mood stabilizer; progress made in working arrangements; making and keeping regular appointments; sinus surgery to improve breathing; household tasks being completed on a daily basis (albeit very slowly); working approximately half-time on a regular basis

Current Goals and Status:

Spiritual Reconciliation:

  • Daily prayer – begun years ago and ongoing
  • Weekly worship online – steady as of 10/2014 and ongoing
  • Daily reflection – steady as of 7/2015 and ongoing
  • Weekly confession
  • Daily Bible reading/meditation
  • Weekly worship at church
  • Participation in weekly Bible Study Group
  • Daily worship at church

Regulate Sleep:

  • Sinus surgery – completed 4/8/2015
  • Esophageal scope to determine the severity of acid reflux and damage caused
  • Sleep study – initial consultation done 1/20/2015 with the confirmation of plans to complete sinus surgery and esophageal scope prior to scheduling study
  • Train the body to know when to sleep, using assistance (supplements, medicines or machines) as necessary

Regulate Work:

  • Work part-time each week from home (and office when possible) – steady as of 7/2015 and ongoing
  • When able, work 2 days per week in the office
  • Increase days at the office as possible until back to full time

Regulate Diet:

  • Cook meals at home rather than eating takeout food or fast food
  • Eat smaller portions and increase water intake
  • Transition diet from high fat and carbs to high protein and fiber

Regulate Exercise:

  • Accomplish household tasks on a daily basis – steady as of 6/2015 and ongoing
  • When weather cools, walk once per day for minimum 5 minutes
  • When able, walk once per day for 15-20 minutes
  • When able, ride bicycle once per day for minimum 5 minutes
  • When able, ride bicycle once per day for minimum 1 mile (to Post Office and back)
  • When able, ride bicycle once per day for minimum 2 miles (to store and back)
